June 23, 2025 - Appleton Cove
We had quite the thrashing as we left Tenakee arm, entering Chatham. Odyssey, a Helsman, gave us a heads up about 3’ seas. We soon found we were into 4’ and occasional 5’ seas, very choppy with winds at 20 kts – a lot different than the forecast. We pressed on, navigating a best course through the waves. As we neared Peril Strait, waves started to settle as the current reversed. Entering Peril Strait, conditions were calm and a relief. Pulling into Appleton Cove, we were disappointed to see so many commercial crab traps, taking up some of the anchorage areas. We picked a nice location that might provide for bear viewing and we did have a black bear cruise the shoreline late in the afternoon as we watched the movie (with popcorn). For dinner we each had half a crab, salad, bread and brownies for dinner! As we prepared to leave in the morning, with a crab scramble and cinnamon rolls, the bear made another appearance.
