June 5, 2025 - Takatz Bay

We left a calm anchorage to head into some wind and lumpy sea state – but not too bad, initially!  We were still optimistic that we might halibut fish along the way – even pulled in behind Carroll Island to test the possibility.  However, as we neared Point Gardner the sea state became more intense, and the winds increased with a gust up to 38 kts.  Our path of travel had the waves largely abeam making for rolling conditions.  Lois was quick to get things secured below and we steered as best we could to minimize the rolling until we turned the corner around Point Gardner and were surfing with the waves.  As we traveled further down Chatham Strait, the wind eased as did the wave.  Lesson learned – Point Gardner can be a challenge!!  We headed for Takatz as it was closer and a lovely anchorage.  Entering, we found only one other boat and our spot near the waterfall was wide open.
