July 5 - 6, 2025 - Orel, Tebenkof Bay
We got a good start in the morning with lumpy but manageable conditions as we left the bay. The plan is to find a good anchorage in Chatham where we could wait out tomorrow’s winds. Rounding Cape Ommaney into Southern Chatham, conditions settled with mild swells. Making our way across Chatham towards Tebenkof Bay, we decided to try trolling along the shoreline. As we approached the bay, we were surprised by a group of whales feeding. We watched them for some time, even trying for a drone shot. As they moved on, we too decided it was time to get busy fishing. After a couple of hours of fishing, one hoochie and one hoochie/flasher loss, we decided to call it. We rested for a couple of days to shake our cold bug, reset terminal tackle and Geary managed a two-mile row around the east islet. We had a sea otters in the bay and a deer made an appearance on the east islet before we left.
