July 7, 2025 -Security Bay

With a system coming in on Thursday, we started working our way towards an anchorage to tuck into for Thursday. We made our way up the coast of Kuiu Island and decided to troll south of Kingsmill Point.  We were not alone as there were numerous humpback whales also feeding in the area – even passing near the boat.  Over a two-hour period, we were able to land two nice Coho salmon – 24” and 26”!  We went to Security Bay for the night to position for salmon or halibut fishing off the point the following day.  We were surprised to once again find numerous sea otters floating in the bay and spotted a deer and black bear on the nearby shore.  A big negative were the gnats that swarmed the boat!

We had a lovely salmon diner – 6 hours from catch to table – awesome!
