August 1, 2025 - Portage Bay

We woke to a drizzling morning with patches of fog dashing our hopes for a morning kayak – onto breakfast, pull up the kayaks and depart.  As we made into Frederick Sound we came across numerous humpback whales – often in our path or directly approaching as we slowed the boat to watch.  It was quite the gift to watch these gentle giants.  Arriving at Portage Bay, we lowered the tender and Geary and Jennifer for a short ride up the bay (low on fuel).   After returning and filling the fuel tank, it was over to the dock for a two mile walk along the road, where we came across a row of abandoned cars.  Returning to Raven, Lois had prepared lovely crab cakes for our last dinner aboard together.
