August 14- 15, 2025 - Sullivan Bay
Our rounding of Cape Caution went very well with 3’ swells at 8 seconds. Winds were light at 10 – 15 kts. Given the forecasted deteriorating weather conditions for the next couple of days, we changed our destination from an anchorage to nearby Sullivan Bay Marina. Added benefit is that tomorrow, Friday, will be a prime rib dinner offering. After docking, we checked Environment Canada weather forecast which had been updated to Gale Warnings for the Central Coast and Queen Charlotte Strait – the very areas we had just transited. West Sea Otter buoy reported that the sea state had changed from 3’/8 sec to 4.6’ /5 sec and winds were 20 kts. We made it through the weather window before the gales started developing! Checking in, we met Dawndi and her husband Marvin, who serve as the marina managers during the summer. At the end of their tour at the marina they will be headed to their floating home in Florida, a Hunter 42, to cruise the southern waters.
The next day a second Raven arrived, a 69’ Ocean Alexander. Operated by a familiar Boeing co-worker it was positioned bow to bow with our Raven - small world! We briefly chatted with Lynne and Peter after they docked, and Dawndi set the two Ravens (65’ and 69’) at the same table for prime rib dinner. We invited a lone couple, Reid and Linda from Sea Urchin, to join us to make it six for dinner and lots of stories.
Picking up our order for sticky buns, an apple and cherry turnover, we were all set to depart under the on again/off again rain showers Saturday morning to stage for our transit down Johnstone Strait under settling conditions.
